An Extension
tl;dr: We are anticipating taking an extra 7 days on the Paradox Lost polish period so Shaun can help out his Mom who is undergoing chemotherapy.
As those of you who follow me on Twitter might already know, my mom has been diagnosed with cancer. The chemo has been really hard on her. A few years ago my parents moved from Boston to Denver. They love the new city but don’t have the family support network they would have had in the New England area.
I’ve always said that I can do what I do from anywhere with an internet connection. Working in a distributed team, any of the pieces can change location without disrupting the others. Rusty moved from Sacramento to Austin the week before the End of Line crunch—and that game turned out great.
So to help out my parents, I bought a one way ticket and temporarily relocated to Denver right before our last crunch. A big part of being here is just being here; Mom isn’t alone for 10 hours a day. The other big part is taking her to her regular chemo treatments.
Rusty and Matt have been great through all this (she was diagnosed during the End of Line polish period) and have agreed that we should extend the polish period on Paradox Lost by 7 days so I don’t fall behind while helping care for my mom.
The Paradox Lost polish period starts today!

Sorry to hear your news, Shaun. As far as I’m concerned I wouldn’t mind if you postponed the polish period indefinitely while you help look after her — only one of these two things is ACTUALLY important!
All the best, mate.
Take your time. These games are great, but your mom needs you.
I hope for the best for your mom. :)
I think I speak for everyone who pledged to Retro Game Crunch when I say, do what you need to do—your mom’s wellbeing and happiness are far more important than any game. Best wishes to you and your family.
Damn, I’m very sorry to hear that Shaun. My sentiments are the same as everyone here; family first.
I wish the best for your mother. Take care, and don’t work too hard on account of us!
Best wishes and good luck!
You guys are the best.
Take all the time you need, pretty sure that everyone who backed this project didn’t back it based on the timeframes, but more the end product. So good luck and all the best.
